Otis (James) School opens.

Originally the New North School and subsequently renamed for the patriot, it is located on Lancaster Street. Harrison Gray Otis, nephew of the school’s namesake, is a speaker at the dedication on March 13, 1845. Samuel Greene is the first headmaster.
